Recent Updates
Greetings to you all our website visitors! We have achieved many milestones in our efforts to partner with the the town to maintain and improve the Rumsey Monument Park, and we wanted to bring you up to date the many accomplishments of The Rumseyan Society.
The quarry lot was graded, top dressed and overseeded in May. The brush clearing along the north wall of invasive species was completed, top dressed and overseeded in June. Both areas are now being mowed and maintained by the Public Works Commission of Shepherdstown.
The concrete pad for the bicycle rack was completed in July along with the excavation and preparation for the parking lot expansion. Paving was completed in August and our contribution of the features of the approved concept plan are now complete.
Our plans for this fall include requests to the town for approval to place a sign soliciting membership into the Rumseyan Society. We also plan to request help with weed control of the 40 newly planted Memorial Lilac bushes around the monument.
We hope you will visit Rumsey Monument Park to enjoy the improvements. As always, let us know what you think. Bring a friend and ask them to join us!
